PATH's Standard of Conduct

Printer friendly version (PDF)

PATH is an organization combining home education with Christian principles. As such, our deportment should be "in a manner worthy of gospel of Christ" (Philippians 1:27). We are commanded to "love one another" as Christ loved us (John 13:34) and "love does not act unbecomingly" (I Corinthians 13:5). Additionally, we are to "behave properly toward outsiders" (I Thessalonians 4:12) and "conduct ourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of every opportunity" (Colossians 4:5). Therefore, knowing that "the Lord is a God of knowledge, and with Him actions are weighted" (I Samuel 2:3), the following rules are set forth.
  1. Proper Orientation to Authority ("Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, to malign no one, to be uncontentious, gentle, showing every consideration for all men." Titus 3:1-2)
    1. Respect all adults (speakers, tour guides, members)
    2. Respect restrictions placed on our group by the sponsoring facility (e.g. age restrictions, remaining in designated areas, handling of objects/equipment.)

  2. Consideration for Others ("Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." Philippians 2:3-4)
    1. Children and adults should display God-honoring behavior, language and manners. ("In speech, conduct, love, faith and purity show yourself an example of those who believe." I Timothy 4:12)
    2. If your child(ren) becomes fussy, please exit the area to avoid distracting others.
    3. Wear appropriate attire to all events.
      1. Dresses, skirts, all split garments, and shorts must be long enough to maintain dignity while bending, sitting or standing.
      2. No see-through or excessively tight clothing.
      3. No strapless shirts or low-cut clothing (neck or underarm).
      4. No clothing that exposes bare midriffs.
      5. Undergarments should be worn, but should not be visible.
      6. Casual for casual; formal for formal - if in doubt, ask the person organizing the event.
    4. RSVP and Payment for Field Trips/Events
      1. RSVP by any stated deadlines, with the exact number of children and adults who will be attending.
      2. Once you have submitted your RSVP and someone in your family is unable to attend, please call the contact person immediately.
      3. If a group payment is required, have the exact amount of money ready in the form and time required.
    5. If your child(ren) will be attending a PATH event without you, please arrange for another adult or your own adult child to be responsible for your children's safety and behavior. Please notify the host of your designee.
    6. Everybody should do their best to leave the place in good or better condition than when we arrived.
    7. Please write "thank you" letters. This is appropriate and also an opportunity to train your child. "It is by his deeds that a lad distinguishes himself if his conduct is pure and right." Proverbs 20:11
    8. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." I Corinthians 10:31. Our aim as godly families home educating our children is to glorify God in all our thoughts, words and deeds.

  3. Infraction
    1. Talk privately to the child's parent or directly to the adult who is not complying.
    2. If the parent is not nearby, verbally correct and guide the child.
    3. If an individual continues inappropriate behavior, report it to a member of the Leadership Board.
